A Warm welcome….
Jay Mountain Alpacas was established in 1999, when the first of 3 registered Huacuya Alpacas arrived at our farm. Since then we have strived to educate ourselves as well as our customers about these unique, gentle animals.
We had been considering different ways to keep our ancestral farmland active, when we learned about Alpacas. There were many factors about Alpacas which held great appeal to us. Alpacas are gentle creatures and easily handled by small children. They are clean animals and easy to care for, requiring only small pastures and simple shelters.
Alpacas are raised for their luxurious fleece so there is no need for slaughter to obtain their cash crop. The fleece, which rivals cashmere in its softness, is sheared annually and spun into yarn. The yarn is then used to produce beautiful garments.
There can be many financial advantages to owning Alpacas and having a farm. In addition, Alpacas have wonderful eye appeal and they’re just plain cute!
Our goal is to offer our customers fine quality alpacas, from excellent lineage at reasonable prices, and to give each customer ongoing support after the sale. We strive to give "big farm" values while keeping our small farm ambiance .
We are now celebrating 21 years raising alpacas. We have birthed 44 cria on our farm and have enjoyed showing our offspring at numerous AOBA sanctioned shows. We have earned over 100 ribbons, 5 reserve championships and 2 color championships.
Jay Mountain Alpacas is located in Jay, New York a small community nestled in the picturesque Adirondack Mountains. We are just 30 minutes east of Lake Placid, 2 hours north of Albany and 2 1/2 hours south of Montreal Canada.
We invite you to come for a visit and see for yourself why so many say Alpacas are “the worlds finest livestock investment”.
